Mairi Drysdale, programme manager

How was your journey to work today?
Perfect, honestly! I recently moved to West Hampstead which is on the Thameslink overland route, meaning I don't have to get the Tube and my journey time is only 15 minutes!

What was the first thing you did when you arrived?
Logged onto my PC to check emails - I was on holiday on Friday and was expecting a full inbox... this was quickly followed by turning on the air con as it's so hot in London at the moment!

The first person I talked with was… one of my managers, Stuart, about the state of the British train service. I was delayed by six hours going home to Edinburgh at the weekend and really felt like complaining about it to anyone who would listen

What did your to-do list look like today?
Deceptively blank - am in presentation training all day, but I know I'll definitely have things to do afterwards

At 11.30am… I was filmed giving a presentation during the training session …

What was your lunch break like?
Busy! We had a break from the training session for a sandwich lunch with the trainers. However, a minor client crisis meant that I had to spring into action and sort things out. Turned out fine in the end.

What was the major non work related story in your team today?
The flooding at Glastonbury, since some colleagues are there!

What did you learn today?
That my voice sounds much more Scottish (and squeaky!) than I thought on video and that the camera does add several pounds. At least I hope it was the camera...

At  12.00pm… I was forced to watch the video of my presentation! It was cringeworthy but a very interesting and useful exercise to do.

What was the most bizarre thing that happened to you today?
A journalist who never calls back actually returned my call to arrange an interview with a client!

Did you have an OK day?
Yes, the training was really good and I left feeling that I'd learnt something.

What are you doing tonight?
Chilling in my flat and catching up on well-earned sleep after a hectic weekend!
