Last Friday, Hotwire’s very own Drew Benvie was invited into BBC Radio 4 to take part in a debate on the future of digital media and eBooks over at London’s Broadcasting House. Appearing on the You and Yours programme alongside fellow panellists Joel Rickett from The Bookseller and Jeremy Essinghausen from Penguin, Drew’s perspective as the impartial commentator was to look at how eBooks might one day transform the printed word the way social media transformed the web.
His last word? Until the industry realises that eBooks, in fact, take the worst of printed and digital media, and until they take a bit of a steer from the direction the web is heading, the format is in for a rocky road ahead.
