28 February 2008 - Hotwire wins European Piczo account

Piczo appointed Hotwire as its European agency to lead campaigns in the UK and Germany. Hotwire was selected for the six-figure account following a competitive pitch process spanning two months.  Piczo appointed Hotwire as its European agency to lead campaigns in the UK and Germany. Hotwire was selected for the six-figure account following a competitive pitch process spanning two months.

Piczo is a teen social network with a user base of 13-18 year olds and over 28 million users globally.  The company was looking for a PR campaign that could develop the phenomenon within a consumer, business and marketing industry consciousness.

Hotwire’s main objectives are to build awareness of the Piczo generation amongst mainstream and trade media in Europe, and to show how Piczo is the key teen player in the world of social networking. Piczo selected Hotwire because of its understanding of the digital media industry and connections.

Piczo enables teens to creatively express themselves, build personal communities, and share content with their friends in a safe online environment. The company has developed content partnerships with the likes of Penguin, Avril Lavigne and Bratz to enrich users experience and hopes to develop further partnerships this year.

Heading the account is Hotwire UK director Drew Benvie, who will report to Piczo director of marketing, Bryan Bennett.

"Piczo is one of the biggest global teen sites and fits perfectly within Hotwire’s digital media practice and our specialist focus,” said Benvie. “Piczo's unique story is in both its privacy and its user base of digital natives. Unlike other social networks, Piczo users can't be searched for, does not work in media or talk about the site outside of their group. So the PR campaign will look to unlock user stories and show how the Piczo generation consumes and shares digital media.

” Bryan Bennett, director of marketing at Piczo said “We looked for an agency that knows the digital media space and could act as the arms and legs of a hot social networking brand in Europe, providing innovative ideas with a keen eye for measurable results. Hotwire stood out and we’re delighted to be working together to expand our understanding amongst media influencers and consumers across our target markets in Europe.”
