“Keep Check on Brands” - An excerpt from Drew’s blog features in the “Best of Blogs” section of the Technology page. In the posting, Drew discusses Summize, the latest innovative Twitter tool. Using Summize, Twitter users can keep track of when and where on the web various brands are being talked about. In the post, Drew also highlights Twilert, a new service which summarises Summize reports and emails the Twitterer on their chosen topic.

In the posting, Ben comments that there is a great deal of discussion on the social media forum, Twitter, about “Be-A-Magpie”, a new service which pays Twitter members to insert ads into their respective Twitter streams.

Hotwire announced the win of a new client, Beem, which will provide a service allowing mobile users to transfer and make payments via text. Hotwire will work on the launch of the new service and its initial activity will involve a social media campaign aimed at raising Beem’s profile among consumers.

Hotwire Director Brendon Craigie contributed to the letters page, posing the question on the role which Barack Obama’s online campaign played in his presidential victory. This thought provoking piece considers to what extent his online campaign aided Obama in uniting an increasingly disconnected US society.

The re-launch of the FT.com website generated so much media coverage that the story was picked up on the website of PRWeek US. The integral role which Hotwire played in the re-launch of the newspaper’s site is highlighted in this article, with the piece noting that Hotwire’s PR activity focuses primarily on the newspaper’s website, as well as its social media activity.

Hotwire announced the launch of its new international corporate practice, to be headed up by new hire, Andy West. West is the former head of EMEA operations at Text 100, where he spent 14 years in total, during which time he won and led major accounts such as IBM, ARM, Novell, Phillips and Avaya. Following his departure from Text 100 in 2006, he has spent the last two years at the forefront of the social media explosion, co-founding and launching Friction.TV. As well as driving forward the growth of the new corporate practice, which will primarily target major technology brands, West will also be joining Hotwire’s board.

Hotwire announced that it has won a new pan-European account with Blom, the largest provider of GIS mapping and imagery in Europe. Blom specialises in the capturing of high-resolution data imagery which it provides to both the public and private sector. The new account will involve a team of twenty staff members from Hotwire’s UK, German, Spanish and Italian offices which will seek to increase awareness of the company by targeting a wide variety of consumer and trade-oriented publications across Europe.

Our resident data security expert, director Alex MacLaverty, recently gave her opinion on a successful campaign by McAfee to regain its leadership image in the fight against data security.  Alex highlighted that while the campaign was successful, it could have been boosted further by an interactive element to the campaign – something which is key in today’s consumer focussed society.

Hotwire was featured in PRWeek’s global PR agency assessment. The publication asked ten directors from some of the largest European and global PR consultancies to share their views on today’s market threats and opportunities. Kristin Syltevik, co-founder and MD of Hotwire gave a very open account of the current state of the industry.

Hotwire recently announced that it has won a three way pitch to manage the UK PR for Intuit.  Using a mix of both print and digital media, Hotwire will work to build awareness of the QuickBooks accounting brand for the US software company, which specialises in financial tax and accounting software.

Following changes in law regarding blogging, our social media expert, Drew Benvie offers advice to PR companies using blogs as an effective tool for promoting products.  The change in the law now prevents people from ‘astroturfing’ – where employees pose as members of the public to post favourable reviews about a client’s product or services. And do you know that you can now be imprisoned for ‘sock-puppeting’ – where you pose a question online, and then log in as a variety of different people, again to post favourable reviews.

Following earlier news this year that Hotwire rose to 39th position in PR Week’s Top 150 PR Consultancies, we have been ranked second in this year’s Top 40 Tech PR Consultancies! The publication features a half page update on Hotwire, stating that we ‘can do no wrong’.

Hotwire recently carried out research into how competent companies were at communicating their green objectives.  In the face of the ongoing recession and in response to a previous article in PR Week, Hotwire’s UK MD, Brendon Craigie advises that now it is more important than ever to retain valid environmental messaging in campaigns, and that being green can actually save consumers money.

Hotwire recently spoke with final year university students to find out their thoughts on the PR industry – with surprising results.  Despite PR being a communications industry by its nature, students believe that many other career choices are more successful at promoting themselves.  Hotwire has experienced significant growth through its graduate scheme in recent years but survey results suggest there may be a danger that the talent pool is limited if all students are not made aware of the industry as a whole.

Hotwire founder and group MD, Kristin Syltevik, has been listed by  PR Week as one of the most influential people in tech and digital PR.  PR Week's ‘Power Book 2008’ is an authoritative guide to the most powerful 1% of the PR industry.  The people listed within the guide  were  judged after PR Week spoke with senior national journalists and MPs, as well as consulting the PRCA and the CIPR.
