Hotwire won two of the top UK PR awards, International Consultancy of the Year and Best Technology Campaign, at the 2007 PRWeek Awards. The Awards, now in their 21st year, were the most hotly contested to date with a record number of entries.
Hotwire won International Consultancy of the Year because of its “good staff retention, culture and real evidence of this working for the agency and its clients’” according to the judges. In the Best Technology Campaign, Hotwire won the award for its work for NetNames and was described as having “excellent rapid response and flawless execution” by the judges. Hotwire used cases of celebrity "cybersquatting" to raise the issue of online brand protection. Many famous brands have still not put in place a process to prevent their online names falling into the wrong hands. This leaves them open to attack from cybersquatters, people who register domain names either to sell them on for a profit or to take money from people being misdirected to their cunningly named website. Through the campaign, the team spotted cybersquatting of David Cameron's blog, David Beckham's move to LA Galaxy and Leona Lewis from X factor. Expectations of the campaign were massively exceeded, with more than 450 articles appearing in newspapers across the world, from The Times and the Daily Mirror to the Wall Street Journal. The campaign even received praise from Jeremy Paxman!
Kristin Syltevik, group managing director, Hotwire commented, “We won Best New Consultancy in 2002 so it’s a fantastic achievement to be awarded International Consultancy of the Year only five years later. Hotwire has had an incredible year in terms of industry recognition winning Best Pan-European Programme at the Sabre Awards and selected as a Best Consultancy to Work For by the Holmes Report.” “We constantly challenge ourselves to deliver standout results for our clients by focusing on highly measurable innovative PR campaigns" said Brendon Craigie, managing director UK. “It is very inspiring to compete at the highest level against some fantastic agencies and come out on top.” |
